I really should of posted this about a week ago. Every year at Christmas time, I get in an argument with someone over the true meaning of Christmas. To sum up my thoughts, Christmas is a pagan sacrifice/feast day (or in the case of Ishtar, Babylonian goddess of love and lust, very, er, unique blends of the two.) that was taken by the RCC ( Roman Catholic Church) and morphed to bring in more people and to have something for the members of the church to do on the solstice other then go to the sacrifice (Human or animal, depending where you were.). Don't get me wrong, I think holidays are great and if you want to say its about the Lord of Heaven and Earth's incarnation, feel free. Just don't start complaining of the commercialization of the season, or quoting "Jesus is the reason for the season" and other such empty platitudes at me.
And whatever you do, don't ask me anything about that jolly, creepy old coot, Santa...
Quote of the post: "It's supposed to be jolly, with mistletoe and holly. And other things..ending in 'olly'." The Hogfather by Terry Pratchett.
